Summary:From the report: "This report is a post-excavation assessment of the archaeological investigations undertaken in advance ofdevelopment of the northern site of Leigh Gunpowder Mills, located at National Grid Reference (NGR 5697 4670). Eight areas were excavated under Strip, Map and Sample and Watching Brief conditions, revealing parts of buildings associated with Gunpowder manufacture at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The site contained the remains of a Boiler House for powering the mills on site in the late 19th century, and a group of structures associated with the manufacture of guncotton/ cordite: a Guncotton Store, industrial Alcohol Store, Wringers and a Box Store."
