An area of features related to WWII military training were identified and mapped from 1940s RAF vertical aerial photography. The earliest activity at this location was 12 small rectangular holes visible on a 1945 aerial photograph [1]. These were dug in two groups, one consisting of two parallel lines of four pits the other of a single line of four pits. It is thought that these may be practice foxholes. Later photos from 1946 [2] show this as an intensely pitted area similar to that recorded 300m to the south (MWX3016). The use of this area for training appears to commence after May 1942 as nothing is visible at this location on photographs of this date [3]. It is not clear if any features survive at this location as the area is now covered by dense scrub.

These features are interpreted as relating to military training as Canterbury Golf Course and surrounding land was used for training in WWII, see related monuments.

A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER [4].
