A number of features dating the post medieval period, including walls and floors, have been encountered during various archaeological investigations carried out near Queen Street and the former site of Last Lane in the 1970's 80's, and 90's

Service trenches cut in the area of Last Lane during the extensive road works associated with the A20 road and sewer scheme, revealed fragmentary remains of post medieval features including walls, culverts and floors. Traces of the foundations of the nineteenth century Zion Chapel which stood on this site until the 1970s. The top of a single brick-lined vault was recorded in the new road bed. Its contents were not excavated. (1-2)

Remains of a similar same date were also located during excavations carried out by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit at the site of the Zion Chapel in 1981. (3-4)
