Summary

At least 26 bomb-craters are visible in the field immediately southeast of the sewage works at Boxlees Hill on 1940s aerial photographs. It is probable that these derive from a WWII bombing raid as similar features are visible 100m to the southwest and 40m to the south. Examination of modern aerial photographs indicates that they have been infilled and levelled.

At least 26 bomb-craters are visible in the field immediately southeast of the sewage works at Boxlees Hill on 1940s RAF vertical aerial photographs [1]. The features consist of one large crater, measuring 8m in diameter and lying at the southern edge of the recorded extent of features, and multiple smaller craters measuring 3-4m in diameter. It is probable that these derive from a WWII bombing raid as similar features are visible 100m to the southwest and 40m to the south (MWX43353, MWX43355). Examination of modern aerial photographs indicates that they have been infilled and levelled [2].
