A WWI salvage dump, part of Richborough Port (MWX43487) which was a major port serving Allied troops on the Western Front [1]. Materials returned from the Front were brought here and sorted. The salvage dump was served by a fan of tramways bringing in materials landed at the train ferry dock (Mke41999) but it is not clear what the other components of this facility were and whether there were any associated permanent buildings. The salvage operation continued after the end of the war into the early 1920s after which the facility was closed and decommissioned. It appears to have been removed by WWII as only the shallow, rail-less, earthworks of the tramways are visible on RAF vertical aerial photography from the early 1940s [2-3].
