In 1960 contractors' excavations disturbed a probable iron age contracted inhumation in the infilling of a chalk cut ditch running parallel with the cliff edge; a few sherds of very coarse pottery were also found. All these sites have now been destroyed; the finds including the inhumation are at the Powell-Cotton museum, Quex Park.(1).
