Archaeological investigations carried out as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link works in 2001 discovered a number of features which may represent the site of a late neolithic structure close to the Ebbsfleet river and at the northern end of the site. The possible structure comprised a shallow kidney-shaped pit flanked by two curvilinear slots, each of which contained three substantial postholes. A shallow gully led from the front of the pit towards the former edge of the river channel this gully may originally have extended further to the west. The structure may have been associated with the heating of water. (1)
