(TQ 5177 6004). Long 0 10' 42", Lat. 51 19' 7". A causeway type flooring composed of chalk rubble was found by Meates in the bed of the river at Lower Barn, between Shoreham and Otford. A fragment of R.B. Pottery was embedded in the flooring. (1) The precise nature of this site is uncertain although Col. Meates thinks it might represent the remains of a riverine hut. (a) An inspection of the river, for several hundred yards above and below Lower Barn, revealed nothing significant. It was noted that the bedrock, where exposed, is of chalk. (2)

The floor has also been interpreted as a possible landing place for boats (5)
