Summary

An Anglo Saxon inhumation cemetery was excavated near Minnis Bay, Birchington in 1938. Also found in this area are three burials, one with a knife and a buckle (see TR 26 NE 21). Despite the fact that these burials were found some distance apart in Gallwey Avenue and St. Mildred's Avenue they were identified as part of the same cemetery.

The site lies on low ground, sloping towards the south-west. OD 10-15m.

TR 292696 (sic) Inhumation cemetery at Minnis Bay Birchingrton. Ante1958 3 burials, one with a knife and a buckle, were found in Gallwaly (sic) Avenue (see TR 25 NE 21) and St Mildred's Avenue. Although some distance apart, they were clearly part of the same cemetery. (1) (St Mildred's Avenue is situated at TR 292695) TR 29276967 Anglo Saxon cemetery at Minnis Bay excavated in 1938.
