Summary
A Saxon inhumation was found at this location in 1938. The burial included the remains of a knife and buckle. Other Anglo-Saxon burials have been found near this location. Despite the fact that these burials were found some distance apart in Gallwey Avenue) and St. Mildred's Avenue they have been identified as part of the same cemetery. The finds are thought to be housed in the Powell-Cotton Museum.

On exhibition in the Powell-Cotton Museum Quex Park,is a skull found with a Saxon Knife and bronze buckle in 1937 between and during the construction of Nos. 9 and 11 Gallwey Avenue, Birchington (i.e. at approx TR 29276952). (1) TR 293695, Minnis Bay Birchington, inhumation cemetery. Ante 1958, 3 burials, one with a knife and a buckle, were found in Gallway (sic) Avenue and St Mildred's Avenue (See TQ 26 NE 38). Although some distance apart, they were clearly part of the same cemetery. (2) TR 29326959 Anglo Saxon cemetery at Minnis Bay, excavated in 1938. Finds now in the Powell-Cotton Museum, Birchington. (See also TR 26 NE 38). (3) This is an inhumation cemetry. Burials were also found in Gallway Avenue and St. Mildred's Avenue. (4)
