[TQ 708 711] In 1975 an unusual type of brooch was found by Mr Percy Payne just north of the mouth of Cliffe Creek. The site was part of a small salt-panning industry. The brooch was not of any known type and came from the surface of one of the red patches, which may represent ovens or salt-pans. (1) Further patrols of the Black Shore at Cliffe have produced yet another fine brooch only a few yards away from the previous brooch reported. This brooch is an example of the head-stud type, dated to the first half of the second century. (2). For sites in context with others in inter-tidal zone, see (3). No visible remains noted during the 2005 coastal survey (4)
