During excavations undertaken in 2007/8 by Wessex archaeology ahead of development at Springhead, series of ditches were uncovered which appear to represent a late medieval or early post medieval field system. Further evidence of this field system was also uncovered to the north during excavations undertaken ahead of development at North Kent Community Church. The ditches appear to also form a N-S trackway and an E-W funnelled droveway. The date is based on the fact that their alignment differs from the earlier Later Prehistoric/Roman field system that also crosses the site, and part of the droveway cuts an Anglo Saxon cemetery. Only a small quantity of brick and tile was found in association with the ditches. The ditches were generally 1m wide and up to 0.3m deep. (1-2)
