Excavations in advance of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in 2002-3 identified a number of Romano-British property boundaries west of the Ebbsfleet. Within property 5, extending back approximately 6 m from the street frontage in approximately the middle of the property was a gravel pathway. This pathway was up to 3m wide and had two surviving layers of metalling. No relationship between this and Watling Street could be established, but the pathway appears to be an early feature. (1)
