A timber building with an early roman date was discovered during excavations at Springhead in 2002-2002. It lay on gently sloping ground towards the base of the slope, at c 11.50 m aOD, immediately to the south of the southern viewing platform. Though parts of the building had eroded sufficient survived of the wall trenches and post-holes to indicate that it was aligned north-south and measured 9.0 m by 5.75 m. Very little diagnostic pottery came from the structural features but, overall, an early 2nd century date seems most probable for construction of this building. Two sub rectangular pits cut the inside edges of the wall trenches, and were notable for the large quantities of pottery they contained. This the latest of this pottery dated to the second half of the 2nd century. (1)
