The main construction material was grey stock bricks bonded with cement mortar. The original construction phase was for two semi-circular gun positions with an earth covered central cartridge and shell storage facility in between. To the rear there is a laboratory and shipping room constructed in 1878-9. To the eastern side of the battery and set within an earth bank is an additional shell store and cartridge store constructed in 1883-4. summarised from souces (1-2)
