Summary

The forebuilding which is part of the original C12th construction is located on the north eastern side of the Keep at Dover Castle and contains the main door with access via a staircase to the second floor. Within the south tower of the forebuilding there is a chapel possibly dedicated to St. Thomas Becket accessed via a mural chamber off the hall. The chapel has a nave and chancel, both square in plan and both having wall arcading with stone benches. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)

The forebuilding which is part of the original C12th construction is located on the eastern side of the Keep and contains the main door with access via a staircase to the second floor. Within the south tower of the forebuilding there is a chapel possibly dedicated to St. Thomas Becket accessed via a mural chamber off the hall. The chapel has a nave and chancel, both square in plan and both having wall arcading with stone benches. The upper chapel has the richest decoration in the great tower and has rib vaults, round moulded arches with chevron ornament and shafts with foliated capitals. The chancel arch is of two orders with step at junction between nave and chancel. (summarised from sources) (1-2)
