Keep Yard 7 was constructed in the 1740s as part of the barracks complex on the site of earlier buildings. It has an open interior and a slate roof, believed to be 19th century in origin. The walls of the building are thicker at 1 metre than standard walls dating from the 18th century, this thickness is governed by the thickness of earlier foundation upon which Building 7 is located. Though it was constructed upon the foundations of an earlier (likely medieval) building, this structure is largely a rebuild of C18th date and little of the medieval fabric survives. Because of the plan of the medieval curtain wall, this building is very deep in relation to its length. By the 1960s, the interior was derelict and the floors had partly rotted and collapsed. Roofs and floors were repaired and largely renewed and reinstated in the late 1970s. (1-2)
