Unstratified Roman ceramics on bar known as Pan Sand. Probable tidal movement deposits this material onto the Pudding-Pan Rock site where they are dredged by fishermen. In 1983 a Whitstable fisherman, B. M. Tyrrell, found a Roman amphora 500m to the north of the Pan Sand bank (1).
