Pillbox [shown on German map of British defences]. Botolph's Bridge. (1)

The possible type 22 pillbox referred to above is visible at TR 12434 32925 on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and has been mapped as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment NMP. The pillbox is protecting the bridge crossing over the canal that is also surrounded by barbed wire obstructions, forming a defended point. Anti tank cylinders or pimples are located immediately between the bridge and the pillbox at TR 1233 3291. The pillbox, along with the barbed wire and anti tank pimples was subsequently removed between 1946 and 1959. (2-3)
