Cropmarks of an enclosure are visible in fields immediately northwest of Upstreet on 1980s RCHME oblique aerial photographs [1-2].
Three sides of a ditched enclosure are visible, enclosing an area at least 35m (NW-SE) by 30m (NE-SW). There is a gap in the south-eastern side of the enclosure close to the southern corner but it is not clear whether this is an entrance or merely an area of the field that is unconducive to cropmark production. A north-westwards curve at the end of the same side suggests that the ditch is returning to form a fourth, north-eastern, side.
Although not securely dated, it is likely that this feature is of later prehistoric date and may represent settlement activity. An enclosure of similar shape and dimensions lies 1km to the SW (MWX43092). It is notable that it also shares the same alignment as the enclsoure recorded 40m to the south (MWX43105) and may represent part of the same enclosure system.
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER [3].
