Circular mound visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in December 1941. It is located on the golf course at North Foreland, but is of uncertain origin and date. It is potentially a golf-related feature, since the golf course was in use prior to the Second World War, and modern aerial photographs show that a mound with a sand pit on top still exists in the same location [3] [4]. If considered archaeological, then the feature may be the remains of a barrow since it is in close proximity to two other ring ditches.
The feature is first visible and was mapped from an aerial photograph taken in December 1941 [1]. It is still visible in April 1946 [2]. The mound measures approximately 16.5m from north to south. A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER [5].
