A Palaeolithic handaxe was found by W Whitaker in c. 1880s in a gravel pit on the north side of the road c. three-quarters of a mile to SW of Allhallows Church, Hoo (1). Present location of this handaxe is uncertain. NB, this record may correspond with the handaxe reported by Evans as found "at Stoke" [MonUID MKE3193], and which is now in the British Museum, where it was examined in 2005 for the Medway Valley Palaeolithic Project (3 - collection study-event ref STOKE01).
