[TQ 9135 6406] ROMAN BURIAL GROUND [R] (1) Three burnt areas near the burials "were thought to be the sites of funeral pyres, but may rather have been those of hutments not necessarily coeval with the cemetery". (2-4) The area is waste ground formerly worked for brick earth. No closer siting evidence than George Payne's small scale maps (1.12 miles: 1 inch) could be found (5). Additional references (6-9).
