Brickworks established between 1861 (tithe map) and 1877 (OS 1st ed) in Abbey Fields. Series of washbacks oriented N-S with tramway on W side leading to Faversham Creek plus a spur at the washbacks' S end linking to the Fversham Creek Branch line. The main buildings were at the S end and a workshop or similar building survives at TR 0235 6170. By 1908 the washbacks had been extended S and by a r-angled section at the N end into what is now Abbey Works site. The works closed after WW1 and were largely cleared by 1924 though the southerly group of washbacks survived in 1938. Area of extraction noted on 1st ed (1865), extended on 2nd ed sheet 34 (1897) and slightly on 3rd ed OS. Gone by 1938 ed. (KCC 146) (1).
