Construction camp established at Red Lion Wharf, later to be used as the site of the power station and its coaling wharf, during 1941 by Holloway Brothers to build four concrete floating forts. These forts, designed by Guy Maunsell, were used for anti-arcraft batteries in the Thames and Medway estuaries from 1942. Holloways subsequently built 21 anti-aircraft towers during 1943, also for offshore use, and concrete floating dry dock during 1944-5. (2). Only the twin chimneys remain standing (1994) (3).
