An evaluation prior to the redevelopment of the Town Yard site was undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 2002. The evaluation revealed a circular brick lined pit some 3.75m in external diameter located near the centre of Trench 3. This pit was dug into the pebble foundation and contained a central square brick pier. The 1858 map marks a circular structure at precisely this point and this is the base of a railway track turntable. (1)
