Summary
Areas G-K 'derive from considerable wartime expansion of the factory to meet the abrupt increase in demand for explosives' (the HM Cordite Factory, for producing guncotton and converting guncotton to naval cordite). Area K is a 'very large and ordered area' in the north-eastern corner of the site. 'The structures in the gridded zone are of two distinct forms: roofless square buildings each partitioned into four internal spaces' and 'rectangular bases with no remaining superstructure'. This areas was used for the blending, drying and storing of cordite.
