Summary
Areas G-K 'derive from considerable wartime expansion of the factory to meet the abrupt increase in demand for explosives' (the HM Cordite Factory, for producing guncotton and converting guncotton to naval cordite). Area I is north-west of Area H, in the central area of the site. It contains a broad arc of structures interpreted as the second nitroglycerine processing area. Three 'large earthen mounds with integral elements of structural brickwork' are 'interspersed with small circular ponds, brick plinths, and a network of tramways, paths and drains'.
