This feature is recorded in the English Heritage Historic Area Assessment for Cooling Parish. The report states:
"A Wesleyan chapel and school were constructed here [in Spendiff] in 1889 on part of an orchard".
"The Wesleyan (later Methodist) Chapel and School built around 1889 lies at the northern edge of the hamlet. The single storey red brick building with arched window heads of stone and attractive leaded glass windows, was converted into a house in the late 20th century". (1)
