This feature is recorded in the English Heritage Historic Area Assessment for Cooling Parish. The report states:
"A public house, usually known as the Horseshoe and Castle, comprised [part of] the village in the 18th century."
"The Horseshoe and Castle public house was rebuilt after a fire in 1914 or 1915." (1)
