Beyond the Refectory, to the north, was a freestanding hexangonal shaped kitchen, about 50 feet in diameter, with six large buttresses at the angles. It was built, along with the outer stone court, in between 1287 and 1291 during the abbacy of Abbot Fyndon, and probably replaced an earlier kitchen, built on the site by Abbot Hugh I of Fleury in c. 1099-1124. Kithen buildings were often built slightly apart from the other buildings in order to minimise the risk of fire. There were probably four hearths and two entrances, one into the Refectory, the other leading to the outer court where the supplies would have been delivered. The roof was steeply pitched and made of lead with louvres to let the smoke out. This building survived until after the Dissolution of the monastery, and continued to be used as the kithcen for the royal palace.

During excavations in 1960, burials from an earlier burial ground were discovered beneath the remains of the Kitchen building.
