Pleistocene deposits rich inpalaeo-environmental remains in old Wear Farm Pit, Chislet, in field "Ware/Bells" to east of Church Lane were first investigated in the 19th C by Prestwich (1), then described by Evans (2). Later re-investigated in mid-1990s (3), and then further investigations in 2013 and 2014 for Stour Palaeolithic Project (4, 5). A flint flake was found in situ during the 1998 investigations (3, p50), at c. 6.5m OD towards the base of "fossiliferous silt" at Section 2, at the northern end of the old surviving quarry face.
