The site of this inn is now an open space, never rebuilt since bombings during the Second World War.
In 1882 the directory named John Popkin as innkeeper and the number was given as 12 Church Street St Pauls. In 1873 the site of the Monastery Tavern was given as "corner of Church Street and Monastery Street" an OS map shows PH on that corner.
The inn closed briefly in 1880 but in 1887 it re-opened as the Monastery Coffee House, the 'COFFEE TAVERN' also became the home of the St Pauls Young Mens Club.
The last innkeeper listed was Mr Robert Banham in 1878.
