This Inn was located next to the old Marlowe Theatre. The brewers were Shepherd Neame and in 1900 the innkeeper was Charles Edward Lang. A license List in 1854 referred to the inn as the Mermaid.

In 1903 William Joseph Cotton was listed a proprietor. The Inn was badly damaged by enemy action in 1942. A photograph of the time show a wrecked building which was pulled down shortly afterwards.
