Concrete observation post for Langdon Battery (3.2 km to the south-west) built in 1910. It was an outpost for the battery established in case the 9.2-inch guns were required to engage targets to the north-east of the battery. The previous owner of the building was Peter Ustinov. Peter mentions this building in his book “Dear Me”. He was posted to St Margaret’s when he was in the army at the beginning of the Second World War. While patrolling the clifftops he came across this building. After the end of the war he managed to acquire the building for himself, a quiet place to write books. The name “The Gun Emplacement" was given to the building by the current owner. It was in fact an observation post and position finding station.(1)
