The medieval lay cemetery of Rochester Cathedral was located to the north, west of Deanery Gate.
In 2007 Keevil Heritage Consultancy carried out a watching brief at Deanery Gate. A small foundation pit for new external stairs found four graves. The burials had been disturbed and clearly pre-dated Deanery Gate House. They are probably of Anglo-Saxon or medieval date. (1)
