In 1986 the Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit carried out an excavation. Pits and ditches of Roman date were found. Pottery from the features was of late 1st century to early 3rd century date. A fragment of a shale plaque was found. Part of the same object appears to have been located during the excavations at the villa site to the south. (1)
