In 2011-12 the Perry Wood archaeology project excavated a number of trenches across the earthwork on Shottenden Hill. In the northeast corner of the enclosure the backfilled ditch was excavated and found to have cut an earlier feature. This contained fresh sherds of Early Neolithic pottery. (1)
