During an archaeological excavation undertaken by Wessex archaeology at Springhead in 2008, a number of Iron Age coins were uncovered. All were unstratified and recovered within the subsoil during machining. Four were discovered in total, three copper alloy coins and one potin. Of these the potin is probably the earliest though it has suffered some damage. Cast coins in potin (bronze with a high tin content) are typical of issues struck between the lat 2nd and first half of the first century BC, and are common on late iron age Kentish sites. The three copper alloy coins probably date to the first century BC or early first century AD. (1)
