Summary

A small scale test pit in the back garden of Orchard House, Water Lane revealed, at a depth of around 70 centimetres, a layer of flint gravels mixed in with which were sherds of Late Iron Age 'Belgic' pottery.

A small scale pit K52 was excavated in the back garden of Orchard House, Water Lane as part of a research project being carried out in the Ospringe area by the Faversham Society Archaeological Research Group into prehistoric and early medieval human activity. Beneath a beaten earth floor, thought to be medieval in origin, was a sealed flint and gravel layer mixed in with which were a number of Late Iron Age pottery sherds. (1)
