Evaluation undertaken in 1998 by Wessex archaeology. The west flanking line of gun emplacements of the Napoleonic Shorncliffe Battery were found. A saw-tooth line of stone walling was found running roughly NW-SE, forming the cladding for the lozenge-shaped earthworks protecting the guns. 2 circular brick foundations and associated arcs of bricks reveal the positions of two gun. (1)
