TR 371669 (sited to nearest 50m) Medieval remains discovered in 1980. Site no. 136. (1)
TR 371669. In 1983 when a bungalow was being built in Hopes Lane, the footing trenches cut through the fill of a pit containing midden material. Among the items obtained were large sherds of medieval jugs and cooking vessels. Also found were fragments of a 'Brigandine', a flexible armoured doublet composed of small iron plates riveted to a garment of leather or velvet. Expert opinion of the H.M. Tower of London dated this to the end of the fiftenth century. There is no tradition of a medieval manor or the like in this area. (2)
