Summary

Two early medieval inhumation burials were found in 1911 at the junction of Lindenthorpe and Stanley Roads in Broadstairs. The finds included human bone and knives. An Anglo-Saxon spear ferrule and a possible spear head both from Lindenthorpe Road on exhibition in Broadstairs Public Library are thought to be part of this find.

The site lies mid-slope on a gentle south facing Chalk slope. OD 40m.

[TR 39336854] Anglo-Saxon Burials found A.. 1911. (NAT) (1) Two Anglo-Saxon graves, bones and knives found in 1911, at junction of Lindenthorpe and Stanley Roads Broadstairs. (2) On exhibition in Broadstairs Public Library, porperty of Broadstairs Historical Society, are an A.S. spear ferrule and a possible spear head- both from Lindenthorpe Road. In the absence of evidence to the contrary it is assumed they are part of the 1911 find. There is no record of subsequent finds form the area which is fully developed. (3) TR 393685. Inhumation burials. In 1911 two Anglo-Saxon graves containing bones and knives were found at the junction of Lindenthorpe an Stanley Roads. The site is half a mile from the hill top and three quarters of a mile from Valetta House. (4) TR 392685. Anglo Saxon burials discovered in 1911. Site no 101. (5) Additional bibliography.
