During the clearance of a war damaged site at Yewdens Court (now demolished) in 1952 a foundation of chalk blocks had been dug into the original ground level, a number of floor and occupation levels were also located in association with this foundation. The earliest of these floor levels was overlain by pottery of a 2nd and 3rd century date while the latest was overlain by pottery of a 3rd and 4th century date and a coin of Tetricus (A.D. 270-3).
