A masonry structure was discovered during excavation by B. J. Philp at the site of the Benedictine priory of St. Martin, founded c. 1130 and lying north-west of the town. This had been added to the north side of the original frater, perhaps in the fourteenth century, and had clay floors at least 15 by 7 metres. (1)
