Traces of Medieval walls, probably of the 12th to the 15th century, together with a garderobe shaft and numerous pits were located during excavation by B J Philp for the Council for Kentish Archaeology and MPBW in 1970. The structures probably relate to the priory of St Martin's le Grand (TR 36 SW 34) at TR 318414 the church of which is known to have stood immediately on the East. (1)
