The Possible ste of St Martins Gate -part of the Medieval defences of Dover - is noted on the site of York Street, Near the remains of the church of St. Martin-Le-Grand, after which the gate was presumably named. (1) An unlabelled gate is marked on Thomas Digges plan of Dover town and harbour dating to 1595 (2) it is also visible on William Eldreds map which dates to 1641, suggesting that this gate/tower survived until at least this date.
