Summary

A pit containing Neolithic pottery was found during the construction of a gas pipeline to the north of Hoo, in 1984. The pit was found to contain shells, traces of charcoal, waste flakes, animal bone and pot sherds dating to the late Neolithic.

[TR 29636561 sited from plan] During construction of the Monkton gas pipeline at Hoo, in 1984, the pipe trench cut a pit of half round section containing shells, charcoal traces, waste flakes, animal bone and pot sherds in a late Neolithic fabric. The fill was of dark loam with chalk nodules. (1)

TR 298656. During work on the Monkton-Ramsgate gas pipe line a pit was encountered at this point in 1983, containing sherds of late Neolithic pottery. (2)
