Monument details

HER Number:TR 26 NE 80
Type of record:Monument
Name:Romano-British pits, Monkton

Summary

Two flat bottomed pits were found during work to lay a pipeline in a field to the south west of Monkton roundabout. The pits contained midden material of Romano-British date and they are most likely associated with a further number of Romano-British features previously identified at the site. It is suspected that a number of graves may also have been revealed at this location during the construction of the pipeline trench.
