[TR 2685 5713] GROVE HOUSE [G.T.] (Site of) (1) The house at Groves, in Staple parish, was an ancient mansion enlarged in the 18th c. and demolished in 1843. A wall enclosing the garden of the present house (originally the 18th c. stables of the mansion) is part of the old house and a depression in one of the nearby meadows was the fish pond. (2,3,4) There is no trace of a building at the published site or in the garden wall of the present house. No traces of a fish-pond could be found. The owner of Groves could offer no further information. (5)
